
CONCEPT
The recollections dwelling and spun in time pile up in the numerous layers, transform into repeated workings or the spirit of the whole things. At the root of my works there exist Eros & Thanatos, bilateral energies immanent in the spirit: NIGIMITAMA, peaceful spirit, and ARAMITAMA, wild spirit are the sources of my expression.
After majoring physics at a university in Japan I started my carrier as an NC software engineer at a global electronics manufacturer, and later on I studied at a college of fine art in the US.
Influenced by the spirit of physics, I am exploring an original expression on my paintings with roughening and rusting techniques learned through Jewelry and Metalsmithing studies, which bring formative element to the works, and with incorporating Japanese and western pigments and techniques.
A collaborating exhibition with the haiku of Dr. Shunkichi Baba at Zoukyudo Gallery in Kyoto in 2017 was a remarkable event. Dr. Baba is a former director of the Nagoya/Boston Museum of Fine Arts, a medical doctor, a haiku master, and an art critic. In 2021 the second collaborating exhibition "Encounter and 0ccurrence" was held at the Takashimaya Art Gallery in Nihonbashi. Dr. Baba's haiku expressed another world resonating with and connecting to something behind the paintings while keeping distance from the motif in order not to be the explanation of the works.
時が宿し紡いだ記憶は幾重にも降り積もり、繰り返される営みや万物の魂となって行く。その魂に内在する二面性のあるエネルギーであるEros & Thanatosが創作の根底にあり、和魂と荒魂が表現の源となっています。
日本の大学で物理学を学び、大手電機メーカーでNCのs/w設計に携わりました。その後、米国の芸術大学へ留学。物理学の精神性を背景に、JEWELRY + METALSMITHINGで培った荒らしや錆びのマチエールを絵画に取り入れた造形的要素を持ち、和洋の顔料と手法を融和させた独自の表現を試みています。
特筆する展覧会は、2017年、京都・蔵丘洞画廊にて、元名古屋ボストン美術館館長で医師、美術評論家、俳人である馬場駿吉氏の俳句とのコラボレーション展。2021年には、日本橋高島屋美術画廊にてコラボ第二弾「邂逅と生起」を開催しました。馬場氏の俳句は、絵の説明にならないようモチーフから距離を置き絵画と融発しあうよう表現され、絵画の裏側にあるものとつながりながら、別の世界を示しています。
